The George

65 High Street, Ramsey, Huntingdon, Cambs PE26 1AA. Tel: 01487-815264

The George is run by Louise Axelsen. Louise has been working in the pub trade since she was fourteen years old. Her mother Jean and brother Carl also work at The George.

A small-ish hotel with 10 on-suite rooms, function room and conference facities. The hotel is easy to find as it is bang in the middle of the town on the junction with Great Whyte. You will need to drive through a narrow archway to get to the parking at the rear. The original building is believed to date back to 1630, giving this Grade II listed building some unique features including Cambridgeshire's oldest staircase.

A long public bar as you walk in with plenty of pumps but very short on ales. There were no real ales but John Smiths Smooth was available. Not a lot of seating in the bar area and for a hotel I would have expected more. There is another room further along but this was in the middle of a decorating session but the sofas looked inviting. There was a small portable TV in the bar area, not the best solution for the big match.

Through the middle room you eventually get to the function room which looked large enough to cope with most large parties.

Opposite the entrance to the bar is the hotel reception entrance. This is also where the restaurant is and it looks well laid out for meals. The food looked good and there were ample portions.

There is a games room to the left of the bar with a pool table sitting there.
